Silencing the Crowd

Last Saturday was the annual Heart to Heart Brunch. Heart to Heart is a ladies' discipleship program that is lead by my dear friend and birthday buddy, Gladys Wilson. Our speaker, Debbie Daniels, is married to the pastor of the First Church of the Nazarene in Pasadena. She made a very interesting point at the beginning of her message. She is always introduced as "the pastor's wife." She pointed out that no other women in the world is introduced that way, you don't hear, "this is my plumber's wife" or "this is the mailman's wife."

Needless to say, she was a very enjoyable speaker. One of the things she talked about was "silencing the crowd." As a mother of four who is also involved in ministry she understands how hard it is to get away from everything and spend time alone with God. She reminded us several times, we have to silence the crowd. Not an easy task, but one well worth the investment.

The second thing that stuck was the reminder that God only gives us what we need today. Just like the people of Israel when they were in the wilderness, he supplied manna for that day. Afterwards, my discipleship girl, Susan and I were talking about that. (That's her in the picture with me, in case you didn't guess that) We can't get all caught up in the future and whether or not this relationship will work out or the whatever that consumes our thoughts. One day at a time God gives us what we need. Something to that song... "One day at a time, Sweet Jesus"
